The Straits Times and other local Singapore media recently reported that the National Heritage Board is developing a 3D virtual replica, or a “digital twin”, of Kampong Glam which people can visit virtually. The organisation has put out a call for creatives to contribute to this project. The digital twin project, which will be ready at the end of the year, will enable users to visit Kampong Glam both physically and virtually. Visitors to the virtual Kampong Glam will be able to navigate 3D scenes and tours to learn more about the area’s history and vibrant culture.

In its report published on 13 August, The Straits Times cited examples of digital twins and highlighted OneMap3D Beta, an open-source 3D map portal which provides an immersive view of users’ surroundings and can help businesses develop solutions using 3D geospatial data.
